Land Clearing in Hawthorne, FL

Florida Land Clearing Co works with property owners in Hawthorne and the surrounding Alachua County area who need overgrown parcels opened up for access, future use or a cleaner boundary line. Whether your parcel is thick with brush, mixed timber or scrubby understory, the right clearing result starts with knowing what finish you actually need. We write a scope before any work begins so you know what stays, what goes and how material gets handled.

What do you want to clear?

Compare all three below. Choose one to carry that service into your estimate request.

Open a lot

Define the work area, then separate brush, trees and below-ground work.

What stays: Keeper trees stay. Roots and debris handling must be specified; an open lot is not automatically a building pad.

Mulch the growth

Grind suitable standing brush and smaller woody growth in place.

What stays: A layer of mulch and the root systems normally remain. Grubbing and haul-off are separate work.

Keep trees, clear below

Remove selected low growth around marked trees and agreed access lines.

What stays: The chosen canopy stays. Cut material is mulched or collected according to the written scope.

01

Lot Clearing: Starting With a Defined Finish

Lot clearing works toward a specific intended use — a building footprint, a driveway corridor or an open yard — rather than simply removing everything visible. We define the work boundary with you before mobilizing. What stays is written into the scope: specimen trees, property-line buffers, utility easements or anything you flag during the site walk. The material handling method, whether cut and piled, chipped, hauled or mulched in place, depends on what your parcel and intended use call for, and that determines a big share of your cost.

02

Forestry Mulching: What the Process Actually Does

Forestry mulching uses a single machine to cut, grind and spread suitable above-ground vegetation in one pass, leaving processed material on the surface. It does not pull stumps or extract root systems; below-ground roots remain in place after the run. That surface layer of mulch is a legitimate finish for many parcels — it can suppress regrowth, reduce erosion on bare ground and leave a cleaner look than cut-and-pile work — but it is not a construction-ready surface. If your plan requires grubbing, stump removal or engineered grading, those are separate scopes we discuss before quoting.

03

Brush and Underbrush Clearing: Choosing Your Method

Brush clearing and underbrush removal describe a range of work depending on density, stem size and the finish you want. Cutting alone opens sight lines and suppresses canopy without processing material to mulch; mulching the same understory produces a different finish with material spread on-site. Neither method is universally better, and the equipment suited to one setup may not be the right call for another. We look at your actual parcel — access width, canopy height, ground conditions — before recommending an approach or attaching a price to the work.

04

Defining the Work Boundary Before We Start

A clearing scope without a defined boundary creates problems on the day of work. We ask you to identify the parcel lines, any areas flagged for protection and anything you want to keep before we write a scope. If your property has a surveyed boundary, that is the most reliable reference. If it does not, we mark the intended work area together. Access points — gate width, road surface, overhead clearance — are part of the pre-work conversation, not an assumption we make after mobilizing equipment to your site.

05

Roots, Stumps and Larger Wood: Separate Decisions

Forestry mulching processes above-ground stems and brush; it does not extract stumps or major root masses. If your intended use requires those removed or ground below grade, that is scoped separately. We do not bundle stump treatment silently into a mulching quote, and we do not assign a fixed depth or diameter guarantee to any process without evaluating the site. Larger timber that falls outside what a mulching pass handles — oversized trunks, dense root balls — gets discussed in the written scope so there are no surprises on the work day.

06

Price Factors and What the Estimate Covers

Forestry mulching projects carry a minimum of $1,200; all other clearing work is quoted individually after we review the parcel. Factors that move price include acreage, vegetation density, stem size, haul distance if material leaves the site, access difficulty and whether stumps or roots require separate treatment. Mobilization is not silently included in a per-acre number. See our pricing page for a fuller breakdown of what goes into a quote. We do not match a competitor's number without reviewing your actual parcel conditions.

Hawthorne, Alachua County and Confirming Your Parcel's Jurisdiction

Hawthorne is a municipality in Alachua County. A Hawthorne mailing address does not automatically confirm municipal jurisdiction — some parcels with that address fall outside town limits and are governed only at the county level. Before clearing begins, confirm which authority has jurisdiction over your specific parcel. The Alachua County growth management office is a starting point for county-level tree and land-disturbance guidance, but it is not a substitute for confirming your parcel. Check with Alachua County or the appropriate municipal office directly.

08

The Written Scope and Getting Your Estimate

Once we understand your parcel's location, intended use and access, we put the scope in writing: what clearing method applies, the defined work area, how material is handled and what falls outside this scope. Example — a hypothetical owner with a two-acre wooded lot wants a building pad cleared and a driveway corridor opened; the scope would distinguish the mulching pass on the corridor from any stump treatment on the pad, quoted separately. That written scope is what you take to permitting or your contractor before work starts. Request a clearing estimate through our Alachua County page or our north-central Florida service area.

Questions from property owners

Clear answers before a clearing contract

Does forestry mulching remove stumps on my Hawthorne parcel?+

No. Forestry mulching processes above-ground vegetation and leaves below-ground root systems in place. Processed material is spread on the surface. If your project requires stump removal or below-grade root extraction, that is a separate scope. We discuss it before quoting so you know exactly what the mulching pass covers and what it does not.

My mailing address says Hawthorne — does that confirm I'm in Alachua County for permits?+

Not automatically. Some parcels carry a Hawthorne mailing address but fall outside town limits, making them county-jurisdiction only. Others sit within the municipality. Confirm your parcel's actual jurisdiction with the relevant local authority before applying for any permit or assuming county or city rules apply to your specific property.

What does a written clearing scope include?+

The scope defines the work boundary, the clearing method — mulching, cutting or a combination — how material is handled on site or removed, and what falls outside the quoted work such as stumps, grading or hauling. It gives you a clear record to share with your permitting office or general contractor before any equipment arrives.

Can brush clearing open access to a parcel without full lot clearing?+

Yes. Brush and underbrush clearing can open a corridor or access point without clearing the entire parcel. The method — cutting, mulching or a combination — depends on vegetation density, access width and your intended finish. We scope that work separately from full lot clearing and quote it after reviewing your specific parcel conditions.
