Open a lot
Define the work area, then separate brush, trees and below-ground work.
What stays: Keeper trees stay. Roots and debris handling must be specified; an open lot is not automatically a building pad.

Florida Land Clearing Co clears land, lots and overgrown parcels in and around Chiefland in Levy County. Whether you need a defined reclamation zone, a usable path through brush, or surface vegetation processed in place, the finish you want shapes the method we use. Tell us what stays, what goes and how you plan to use the ground afterward, and we'll put a written scope together before anything moves.

What stays: A layer of mulch and the root systems normally remain. Grubbing and haul-off are separate work.

What stays: The chosen canopy stays. Cut material is mulched or collected according to the written scope.

Many owners don't want every tree down — they want one defined zone opened while mature cover stays around it. That retained perimeter is a boundary decision you make before we start, not something we determine on the day. You mark or describe the reclamation area, we work inside it. The result is a cleared interior with a standing edge rather than bare ground wall to wall. Identifying what stays is the first useful step in any scope conversation and it directly affects time, material volume and cost.
Lot clearing is appropriate when you need the entire parcel or a large portion of it cleared to a consistent surface condition — vegetation removed, rough access established. The intended finish might be a buildable pad area, pasture expansion, or a parcel you can finally walk and assess. Lot clearing typically involves more than mulching alone; stumps, larger wood and root mass are often scoped as separate line items because their treatment options differ from above-ground brush. We quote that work individually based on what's actually there.
Forestry mulching processes above-ground vegetation — trees, shrubs, brush — and returns the material to the surface as mulch. It is not grubbing, and it does not extract stumps or eliminate root systems below grade. What it does well is clear surface growth efficiently across a defined area while leaving the ground relatively undisturbed beneath. If your plan requires a bare, root-free surface, that's a different scope. If processed material on the surface works for your intended use, mulching is worth discussing as your primary method.
Compare the three clearing options →Brush and underbrush clearing can be accomplished by cutting, by mulching, or by a combination depending on density, stem size and the finish you need. We don't assign a single attachment or a universal method to every brush job. A light overgrown edge along an access road calls for something different than thick regrowth on a neglected interior acre. The right approach comes out of a site-specific look at what's there and what you want afterward. Tell us the end condition you're working toward and we'll match the method to that goal.
You can choose how processed material is handled before you decide whether any haul-off is necessary. Options generally include leaving mulched material spread in place, pushing it to a designated pile on your property, or arranging haul-off as a separate service. Larger wood — trunks, limb sections — may be set aside, piled for your use, or scheduled for separate removal. Deciding on material placement early keeps the scope clean and prevents revisiting finished areas. We confirm your preference in writing before the work begins, not during it.
Forestry mulching leaves root systems in place. If your intended use requires root removal, grubbing or stump treatment, those are separate line items quoted on their own merits — stem count, size and accessibility all factor in. We don't silently include stump grinding or below-grade work in a mulching quote, and we don't promise a construction-ready surface from mulching alone. If you're planning development that requires ground preparation beyond surface clearing, note that in your estimate request so we scope the right work from the start.
Request a property estimate →Chiefland is located in Levy County. Before clearing, confirm your parcel's actual jurisdiction — a mailing address alone doesn't establish whether municipal or county rules apply to your land. Levy County Development Services is the starting point for county-level planning and permitting questions, but applicability depends on your specific parcel and current process. We don't pull permits on your behalf or interpret zoning for you. Confirming jurisdiction before you request a scope prevents scope changes later. See also our Levy County service area page.
Forestry mulching carries a project minimum of $1,200. Lot clearing, brush clearing, stump work, haul-off and mobilization are each quoted separately based on your parcel. Factors that move a quote include access conditions, total acreage, vegetation density, material disposition and whether any retained areas require careful edge work. We don't give meaningful numbers without seeing the site or receiving useful specifics. Visit our pricing page for more context, then request a written estimate so we can scope your reclamation area directly. We also serve the broader North Central Florida region.

Questions from property owners
Yes — material placement is part of the written scope we agree on before work starts. You can designate a pile location, choose spread-in-place, or hold the haul-off decision until you see the volume. Confirming placement preference early prevents us from finishing an area and then having to revisit it. We document your choice before equipment arrives.
Trunks and large limb sections that aren't suitable for mulching in place can be set aside on your property, piled at a designated spot, or scheduled for separate haul-off. We scope larger-wood handling as its own line item. Tell us your preference when you request the estimate so we can price accordingly and not leave an outcome unresolved.
No. Forestry mulching processes above-ground vegetation and leaves root systems in place. If your project requires stump removal or below-grade grubbing, that's a separate scope item. We quote it independently based on what's present. We won't imply a mulching quote includes below-grade work — if you need it, say so when you contact us.
You describe or mark the boundary — flagging, a sketch, a property survey reference, or a conversation on-site. We work inside that line and leave the perimeter standing. The retained edge is part of your written scope, not a judgment call made during the job. Being specific about what stays protects trees or cover you want to keep.
