Open a lot
Define the work area, then separate brush, trees and below-ground work.
What stays: Keeper trees stay. Roots and debris handling must be specified; an open lot is not automatically a building pad.

You may want to walk your property without stripping every tree off it. Or you may need a lot opened for a builder who needs the roots out, not just the brush knocked down. Florida Land Clearing Co plans land clearing in Ocala around that difference. We discuss the area being worked, the entrance, the trees to save and the next use of the ground. Lot clearing, forestry mulching and selective brush clearing can be combined, but the written estimate should say exactly where each method stops.
Choose the finish, not just the machine
Compare all three below. Choose one to carry that service into your estimate request.
Define the work area, then separate brush, trees and below-ground work.
What stays: Keeper trees stay. Roots and debris handling must be specified; an open lot is not automatically a building pad.
Read the lot clearing details →Grind suitable standing brush and smaller woody growth in place.
What stays: A layer of mulch and the root systems normally remain. Grubbing and haul-off are separate work.
Read the forestry mulching details →Remove selected low growth around marked trees and agreed access lines.
What stays: The chosen canopy stays. Cut material is mulched or collected according to the written scope.
Read the brush clearing details →Not sure? Leave the choice open and describe what you want the ground to look like.
The size on the property record is not necessarily the clearing area. A larger tract might only need an entrance, a walking loop and an opening around a future house. Mark those areas on a sketch before asking for a full-property price. Tell us which trees, fence corners, planted areas and shaded strips must remain. That saves a useful part of the property from being treated as unwanted growth.
Walkable access and construction preparation are different finishes. If a builder is involved, get the footprint and working clearance first. We can price defined work instead of guessing how much land the builder might need later. An estimate should identify the boundary information supplied by the owner; clearing equipment is not a substitute for a survey.
Lot clearing makes sense when the objective is a defined opening rather than a particular attachment. It can involve cutting, sorting, selective removal and an agreed debris plan. Forestry mulching reduces suitable brush and smaller woody material where it stands. The result is a mulch-covered surface, normally with roots left below. That can suit access and maintenance, but it should not be described as a finished foundation area.
Brush clearing concentrates on the lower growth between trees you intend to keep. The operator needs a marked keep list, clearance to work and a decision about the cut material. Some jobs use brush clearing at the shaded edge, mulching through the open middle and separate root removal inside a build zone. Those areas need separate scope notes, even if they are on one parcel.
A painted trunk tells us which tree stays; it does not identify every place equipment can safely travel. Before selective work, discuss the space around the tree, low limbs, exposed roots and where cut material will be handled. We do not use a keeper tree as a convenient place to stack logs or turn repeatedly. If tree condition or a protection zone needs specialist advice, arrange that before the cutting plan is settled.
Also point out anything hidden in the understory: old wire, irrigation, abandoned fence posts, dumped material or a previous stump pile. Material wrapped in a mulching head costs time and creates a hazard. Flag known obstructions from a safe position. Do not enter unstable brush or climb fallen trees just to document a problem.
Compare the three clearing options →The City of Ocala Planning Applications page lists both a Tree Removal Permit and a Tree Restoration Plan. Use that city resource to ask which application fits a parcel inside the city. An Ocala mailing address alone is not our basis for selecting the permitting authority. Confirm the parcel location and describe the proposed clearing, retained trees and future construction before work is scheduled.
This page covers the city request; the Marion County page covers the wider county service area. Neither replaces a decision from the relevant authority. Local tree review also does not settle wetlands, protected wildlife or other project approvals. If a concern is identified, keep that area outside the equipment limits until the owner has the necessary determination or approval.
Measure the usable opening, not just the nominal gate size. Posts, a sharp turn off the road, overhead branches and a soft approach can reduce what actually fits. We also need a place to unload, turn and keep equipment clear of passing traffic. If the entrance is shared, confirm permission and working arrangements before booking a move.
A machine that fits through the gate still needs support. Explain where the truck can wait, whether a culvert carries the approach and whether recent rain has softened the route. We may recommend a site walk before committing to a machine or production allowance. That is a practical access check, not a promise that every acre has the same ground conditions.
Forestry mulching has a $1,200 project minimum. The existing calculator provides a planning range using acreage, density, terrain, access and common stem size. It does not price root extraction, grading, disposal or trucking. A small accessible mulching job is not the same purchase as clearing a wooded construction footprint with material removed.
For an Ocala estimate, separate the proposed work into manageable areas and describe the result for each. Production time changes with selective work, hidden obstructions and material handling. Mobilization and any haul-off should be identified separately where applicable. We confirm scheduling after reviewing the site requirements; this page does not promise an available crew tomorrow or a fixed number of acres per day.
Request a property estimate →Consider an owner who wants a path through brush, shade trees retained and one opening reserved for a future shop. A useful proposal would show the path width, mark the retained trees, specify mulching outside the shop area and identify the separate root work needed inside it. It would also state where logs and unsuitable debris go.
Before accepting a similar proposal, walk the path limits and check that the shop area has its own finish description. Ask whether the operator can turn without using the shade area and whether any retained wood would obstruct the builder's approach. Those details belong on the scope before the first pass.
Provide the property address or parcel identifier, approximate work area and what you want to do with the land next. Mention the entrance, known wet areas, roots that must come out and anything that stays. Photographs are helpful if available, but you can begin with the property details and a call preference. We will explain what is missing before giving a firm scope.
After the discussion, a site visit may be needed to confirm access, boundaries and handling. The written estimate should name the method, work limits, exclusions and intended finish. If your plans change, revise those limits before the operator continues rather than relying on a conversation shouted across a running machine.

Questions from property owners
Yes, a defined access scope can be considered without pricing the whole tract for removal. Specify width, turns, overhead clearance and the intended traffic. Tell us whether low-cut stumps are acceptable or whether the route needs a separate below-ground treatment.
Not by itself. Mulching generally leaves roots and organic material. Your builder should define what must be removed from the footprint and which later grading, fill or testing steps are needed. Those tasks are not included merely because the surface looks open.
Start with the city Planning Applications resource below if the parcel is inside city limits. It lists tree-related applications. If the property is outside the city, identify the correct county authority instead. Do not choose the permit process from the postal address alone.
You can start with the address, approximate clearing area and desired result. We may need photographs or an on-site walk before narrowing the range. A first conversation should identify those needs without treating an unseen tract as a guaranteed per-acre job.
Beyond this location
Start with the location, work area and the result you want. Photos are optional. We will discuss the method and arrange a site walk when needed before a firm scope.
