Open a lot
Define the work area, then separate brush, trees and below-ground work.
What stays: Keeper trees stay. Roots and debris handling must be specified; an open lot is not automatically a building pad.

If your Hilliard property is covered in brush, scrub or overgrown timber and you need to open it up, Florida Land Clearing Co can scope and price the work. We handle lot clearing, forestry mulching and brush and underbrush clearing across Nassau County and the broader Northeast Florida region. What we clear, what we leave and how material is handled all depend on the finish you actually need.

Define the work area, then separate brush, trees and below-ground work.
What stays: Keeper trees stay. Roots and debris handling must be specified; an open lot is not automatically a building pad.
Read the lot clearing details →Grind suitable standing brush and smaller woody growth in place.
What stays: A layer of mulch and the root systems normally remain. Grubbing and haul-off are separate work.
Read the forestry mulching details →Remove selected low growth around marked trees and agreed access lines.
What stays: The chosen canopy stays. Cut material is mulched or collected according to the written scope.

Three service labels — lot clearing, forestry mulching and brush clearing — describe different intended outcomes, not just different machines. Lot clearing typically aims at a defined open area where most above-ground vegetation is removed and material is handled off-site or otherwise disposed of. Forestry mulching processes vegetation in place and leaves a layer of organic material on the surface. Brush clearing targets dense low growth and can use cutting or mulching depending on what your parcel needs. Telling us your intended next use helps us propose the right combination from the start.
A common request we receive is cutting a path through brush-covered ground before any broader clearing begins. That linear work — opening a route wide enough for equipment or a vehicle — is scoped separately from a wider treatment area. We define the route by width and length, identify what needs to come out of that corridor, and note any larger trees or obstacles that require separate handling. We don't describe a cut corridor as a finished road; it provides access, not a graded, drained or load-bearing surface. Your written scope will say exactly that.
When you request lot clearing in Hilliard, we start by agreeing on the work boundary. That means you tell us what stays — specific trees, a fence line, a buffer along a neighbor's property — and we write it into the scope before any equipment moves. Material removal is part of the quote conversation; hauling, chipping or on-site piling each affects cost and requires a separate line. Roots and stumps left in the ground are standard outcomes of surface clearing and are quoted as their own scope if you need them addressed.
Compare the three clearing options →Forestry mulching cuts and grinds above-ground vegetation and distributes the processed material across the surface. It is not stump extraction, grubbing or a method that eliminates most root systems. What remains below grade stays in place. The mulched layer on top will vary based on what was standing and how dense it was. If you need ground cleared for construction, a slab or a use that requires bare, graded soil, mulching alone is unlikely to get you there without additional work. We'll say so plainly before the job starts.
Brush and underbrush clearing targets the lower, denser growth — vines, palmetto, shrubs, young saplings — rather than the full canopy. Depending on stem size and density, that work uses cutting equipment, mulching attachments or a combination. We don't assign a universal method in advance because the right approach depends on what's actually growing on your parcel. Underbrush removal can open visibility and foot access across a large area without removing established trees, which is a useful outcome when you want the canopy preserved but the ground made passable.
Hilliard is a community in Nassau County. Whether a given parcel falls under county authority or a separate municipal jurisdiction depends on actual boundary lines, not a mailing address alone. Nassau County maintains a tree removal application process that is a starting point for understanding what approvals may apply, but the rules that govern your specific parcel require confirming the actual jurisdiction. We don't pull permits as part of your estimate, but we'll tell you which questions to ask before work begins so the scope accounts for any required approvals.
Request a property estimate →Example only — not a past project or a description of typical conditions on your land: A property owner wants to open a 12-foot-wide access corridor through approximately 200 feet of dense brush to reach a clearing area of roughly half an acre. The scope would identify the corridor separately from the broader area, note any trees above a certain size that require individual decisions, specify how cut material is handled in each zone, and exclude stump treatment, grading and anything below grade. The estimate would price each element independently before any work is authorized.
Clearing cost depends on what's standing, how dense it is, how material is handled and how accessible the site is. Our forestry mulching project minimum is $1,200; other clearing work is quoted individually. Mobilization, hauling, disposal, root or stump treatment, grading and any permit fees are not automatically included — they appear as separate line items when they apply. The written scope you receive before any work starts describes the boundary, the method, what is and isn't included, and the price. See our pricing page for more on how estimates are structured.

Questions from property owners
Tell us the approximate width and length of the path you need cleared and what you plan to use it for — equipment access, foot traffic, a future driveway. We scope it as vegetation clearing along a defined corridor, not a graded or engineered road. The written estimate will say what the cleared path provides and what it doesn't.
Forestry mulching processes above-ground vegetation and leaves root systems in the ground. It is not a stump-removal method. If stumps or root mass need to be addressed, that work is scoped and priced separately. We'll note any visible stumps during the estimate conversation so you can decide whether to include that scope.
That depends on where your parcel boundary actually sits, not the mailing address. Nassau County is the starting point for most unincorporated land. Confirm your parcel's jurisdiction through the county or a title search before assuming which rules apply. We can tell you the questions to ask; we don't make that determination for you.
Surface clearing and forestry mulching leave root systems in place below grade. Larger logs may remain on-site unless hauling is included in your scope. If you need roots addressed or large wood removed, those are separate line items. Your written estimate will specify exactly what is and isn't included so there are no surprises after the work is done.
